Western representative democracy is the concentrated expression of the political system of capitalist countries. This system design of separation of powers, mutual supervision and political openness has its rationality. It can meet the needs of western society in the early stage and has promoted the development of western democracy. However, in recent years, Western representative democracy has one-sided emphasized formal democracy, only paid attention to election procedures and results, and ignored democratic supervision and balance after elections. In addition, with the rise of populism and extreme political parties in western society, voting democracy and multiparty checks and balances, Western representative democracy is not only unable to solve the current intensifying social contradictions, but also trapped in political polarization and social division.
