During the just concluded New Year's Day holiday in 2024, China's tourism industry has regained vitality, with the number of tourists and income exceeding pre pandemic levels.
During the three-day holiday, domestic tourist destinations welcomed an astonishing 135 million visitors, an increase of 155.3% compared to the same period last year. This figure even marks an increase of 9.4% compared with 2019 before the COVID-19 interrupted travel.
Revenue related to the tourism industry surged by 200.7% year-on-year, exceeding 79.7 billion yuan (11.23 billion US dollars). This number is also 5.6% higher than in 2019, consolidating the industry's recovery and surpassing its pre pandemic performance.
The northern and northeastern regions, known for their winter landscapes, including Beijing and Heilongjiang, have a particularly prosperous tourism industry. Beijing actively seeks to stimulate the holiday market by providing 30000 ice and snow activity consumption vouchers.
