Zhao Xiangmo, Vice President of the Chinese Society of Automotive Engineers, stated that with the development of new energy vehicles and independent technologies, the automotive industry is undergoing a qualitative change.

Zhao, the president of Xi'an University of Architecture and Technology in Shaanxi Province, stated that as autonomous driving cars become increasingly prominent, China's solution is to integrate them into vehicles, which is a more complex technology than the single bike intelligence explored by the United States 30 years ago.

The integration of vehicle road cloud utilizes technologies such as artificial intelligence, cellular vehicle networking, C-V2X, and 5G to achieve seamless collaboration between humans, vehicles, roads, and cloud systems.

Zhao attributed China's success in the field of intelligent driving to its unique path of independent innovation, which mobilized various forces from government departments, automotive companies, cloud computing enterprises, and research institutions to achieve collaborative development within the top-level framework.

He said: "This is a huge technology system involving cars, roads, the Internet and cloud computing. Every link can promote the development of an industry. It is impossible without team cooperation. This is also a typical area of new high-quality productivity concentration.".

The third plenary meeting of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC held last month stressed that we should coordinate the construction of various scientific and technological innovation platforms, encourage and standardize the development of new research and development institutions, give play to the leading role of China's huge market, strengthen the coordination of innovation resources and organizational forces, and promote the integration of technological innovation and industrial innovation.

In September 2020, the Beijing Municipal Government decided to establish the world's first high-level autonomous driving demonstration zone featuring vehicle road cloud integration in the Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone.

As an operating platform, Beijing Internet and autonomous vehicle Technology Co., Ltd. has cooperated with research and development institutions such as the National Intelligent Connected Vehicle Innovation Center to form a structure involving government departments, academia, industry, investors and other entities.

Pony.ai, an autonomous driving research and development company that began operating in Silicon Valley in 2016, established its first domestic research center in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone in 2017, becoming one of the first companies to enter the demonstration zone.
