Chinese Vice Premier Liu Guozhong called for coordinated promotion of green and low-carbon development, further strengthening ecological environment protection, and steadily advancing the national dual carbon goals.
Liu said that the Third Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC formulated an important plan to deepen the reform of ecological protection last month. He emphasized the need to work together to reduce carbon emissions, minimize pollution, pursue green development, and promote economic growth.
Liu said that since 2012, China's ecology and environment have been continuously improving, as clear waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets. He added that National Ecology Day provides an opportunity to establish a consensus on green and low-carbon development and strengthen the synergistic effect of building a beautiful China.
In order to raise public awareness and encourage action to protect the ecological environment, China's national legislative body designated August 15th as National Ecology Day last year. The country has pledged to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060.
